Hybrid-based products in science and technology are no longer a distant vision of the future – as evidenced by our everyday lives, where we regularly encounter these fusions of complex technologies. Just think of the smartphone, a mobile computer with an integrated camera that makes life and work easier. Or to cars powered by an electric motor and an internal combustion engine. Wefapress® also relies on the advantages of hybrid technology and uses them in the development of innovative products. Exemplary: Drainage elements made of CeramX® which are used in the paper industry.
Why paper manufacturers use CeramX
CeramX® drainage elements combine the properties of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (PE-UHMW) and ceramics. This makes the elements as flexible as normal plastic, almost as wear-resistant as ceramic, and easy to handle. Compared to dewatering elements made of normal plastic, CeramX® achieves at least twice the service life. Another advantage is that solid ceramics are very fragile and form sharp edges in the event of damage, which can destroy the paper machine clothing, which in turn is associated with high follow-up costs. CeramX® prevents exactly that: it is not sensitive to breakage, is softer than the screens and does not form any breakage edges if the worst comes to the worst – the screen covering and the press felt are therefore not damaged.
CeramX® scores twice over in terms of costs
Plus: the cost factor, which should not be underestimated. Drainage elements made of CeramX® cost considerably less than all-ceramic parts – this is not only noticeable in the purchase price. Considering that ceramics are fragile, this also means that sufficient replacement material must always be kept on hand. CeramX® scores twice here. This is because the dewatering elements are not only easy to replace on the paper machine, but also tie up less capital in the spare parts store.
